Hanover Awarded Over $99K to Develop Urban Forestry Program
The Village of Hanover in Licking County, Ohio, has been awarded $99,120 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. The grant, which requires no local match and includes full grant administration support, will allow Hanover to launch its first Urban Forestry Program at zero cost to the Village.
To proactively manage growth and plan for a sustainable future, Hanover will establish a comprehensive framework for urban forest management. This includes a community-wide tree inventory, tree risk assessments, operations review, planning and design standards, and detailed technical specifications. The program will also support training for personnel, hazardous tree mitigation, and the purchase and planting of new trees in strategic locations throughout the Village.
The anticipated outcomes for the Village include a healthier and safer tree canopy, improved stormwater management, expanded canopy coverage, and enhanced environmental quality. By prioritizing the use of local nurseries and arborists, the program will also strengthen community partnerships and economic resilience.
Neighborhood Strategies was proud to assist the Village by preparing the successful grant application. We congratulate Hanover on this award and are excited to see the community take this important step toward a greener future!
